Reporting to: Director of Aquatics
The YMCA of Norwalk seeks an Assistant Director of Aquatics to be responsible for the organization, delivery and quality of
YMCA aquatic program(s) to the membership and community. The candidate will work independently under general direction and
is expected to determine how to accomplish tasks.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Promotes and incorporates the YMCA four core values and character development model in to all program activities.
- Recruits, trains, and develops non-exempt and part time program staff and volunteers.
- Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
- Organizes and schedules program registrations.
- Reviews and processes program scholarship applications.
- Compiles program statistics.
- Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
- Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with other community organizations.
- Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
- Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and events.
- Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with the Association strategic plans.
- Assists in fund raising activities and special events.
- Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
- Assists with Program Committee meetings
PROGRAM SPECIFIC DUTIES
- Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
- Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
- Maintains accurate records of staff certifications.
- Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools.
- Secures and schedules pool facilities.
- Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings.
- Creates and schedules swim classes, water fitness classes, and swim team practices and meets (if applicable).
- Performs lifeguarding and swim instructor duties as required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises part time and non-exempt employees and volunteers. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in
accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and
training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; reviewing and approving timesheets; appraising performance;
rewarding and disciplining employees; monitoring and updating all required staff certifications; addressing complaints
and resolving problems.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree from 4 year college or university in related field. 3-5 years related experience preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or
governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to
effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area,
circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited
standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, TRAININGS must be completed within first year of employment.

Bloodborne Pathogens; Child Abuse Prevention and Reporting Awareness
Aquatics: Lifeguard or YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant, Fundamentals of Swim Instruction, Aquatics Facility Manager,
Pool Operator On Location, CPR, and First Aid. Must be 21 years of Age.

AQUATIC INSTRUCTORS
The YMCA of Norwalk seeks Aquatic Instructors who will report directly to the Assistant Director of Aquatics
and/or the Director of Aquatics. Instructors are responsible for supervision, quality control and safety of
all participants engaging in swim lessons. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age, currently certified
in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Standard First Aid; Applicant must be in good health and fitness.
Candidate must obtain W.S.I. or YMCA Instructor certification within one year.
Responsibilities include: Being professional, polite, courteous and alert at all times, knowing and enforcing
all pool rules, being able to administer proper first aid and carry out all emergency procedures, as taught,
if needed and find appropriate sub coverage if needed. Other activities our instructors participate with
meeting with Directors, coordinate lesson schedule, assign classes to instructors, use computer system for
registration of participants, assist with staff meetings, strive to provide quality classes while increasing
enrollment and handle interaction with staff, parents and children.

LIFE GUARD
The YMCA of Norwalk seeks Lifeguards who will report directly to the Assistant Director of Aquatics
and/or the Director of Aquatics. Lifeguards are responsible for the supervision, general maintenance and safety
of all participants using the pool. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age, currently certified in CPR
for the Professional Rescuer, Standard First Aid, AED, Blood born Pathagens and Lifeguard training.

PRESCHOOL TEACHERS
The YMCA of Norwalk seeks Preschool Head and Assistant Teachers to report to the Director of Preschool.
Teachers are needed in the following areas: Preschool and Toddler. Candidates must have knowledge and understanding

Assistant Teachers duties include:
Assisting the Head Teacher with all areas of the program, provide a safe ,
healthful and effective environment for each child, attend necessary training events, demonstrate punctuality,

Head Teachers duties include:
Supervise, direct and develop the daily programs for the nursery school with

Assistant Director of Youth & Family
Position: Assistant Director of Youth & Family
The YMCA of Norwalk seeks an Assistant Director of Youth & Family to work with our School Age Childcare Program.
GENERAL FUNCTION
Supports various aspects of the school programs during each season, including the Teen Center program, Vacation Clinic Camps and the School Age programs.
KNOW-HOW
Bachelor's degree in recreation, education, social services or equivalent. Three or more years experience in camping programs, including program development, staff supervision, and specialized program areas. Knowledge of YMCA helpful. Must be eligible to obtain Commercial Driver's License. Knowledge of personal computers required and budgetary experiences a plus. Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES
Coordinates all afterschool programs in regards to supplies, snack, and activities and assure that all activities meet the goal and objectives of the YMCA.
Visit all SACC sites once every two weeks at a minimum.
Coordinate and provide assistance with new teen programs such as Leaders Club, Youth & government, Monthly Safe Haven Teen Nights, ect. Facilitate/co-facilitate program activities in visual art, music and Drama with our Arts & Humanities Department.
Develop family based programming such as Adventure Guides and Spooktacular (enhance the programs by designing with new themes and variety each year).
Be on call for obtaining appropriate sub coverage if contacted by SACC staff and be able to substitute as necessary when coverage cannot be reached.
Attend weekly staff meetings.
Meet with supervisor once per week to report on enrollment, supply orders and pertinent issues.
Develop and maintain a positive relationship with the Norwalk Board of Education and all School Principals; same applies to parents and guardians who use the programs.
Responsible for daily program reports and activity plan. Implementation of and participation of daily indoor/indoor activities.
Assist with the cleanliness of the facility daily as deemed necessary.
Prepare and submit incident/accident reports when needed in a timely manner. Submit any employee write up’s in a timely fashion and notify Director immediately and HR when employee relations issues arise.
Any reports deemed necessary by the Director shall be submitted in a timely fashion (i.e. Board report).
Maintain rosters and attendance reports of all program participants on a daily basis.
Record and maintain log of all fire drills on a monthly basis and submit to Director.
Create program flyers, program literature and distribute outreach materials.
Delegate responsibilities for preparation of all program activities to staff.
Assist with the establishment of community linkage and participate in collaborative events and projects.
Participate with all staff trainings and proceed towards Senior Director Certification if applicable.
Coordinates Vacation Clinic Camps. Develops and directs field trips, planning in advance for all programs including YMCA activities to offer a varied program for all participants. Ensures regular inspections and repair of program facilities to make sure everything is fully operational prior to any clinics beginning.
Coordinates assigned volunteer activities for vacation clinic services including Healthy Kids Day, volunteer staff, and recruitment of new volunteers and recognition of volunteers.
Shopping for snack that is provided at all of the SACC sites includes pickup at local warehouse club (COSTCO) and arrangements for all sites to be provided snack distribution.
Create new and fun programs for Middle School sites, vacation camps, teen center and Safe Haven Nights. Safe Haven nights take place once per month and involve superior planning, marketing and event coordination to make event successful.
Develops budget and monitors expenditures to ensure efficiency of operations.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Youth & Family.

CUSTOMER SERVICE/FRONT DESK/RECEPTIONIST POSITION
The YMCA of Norwalk seeks FT/PT Membership Service Front Desk position that will report to the Director of
Membership. Responsibilities shall include: Excellent customer service skills (retail management background
preferred), able to interact with all levels of management, strong organizational skills, neat appearance,
able to use computer system for sales, inventory experience and cash out at end of shift/day. Candidates
will be providing tours of the facility and responsible for attaining sales goals set by Director.

DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT
The YMCA of Norwalk seeks a Full Time Director of Development. Under the general direction of the CEO, the Director of Development is a key member of management, representing financial development, marketing and communication disciplines in setting overall direction and strategy for the organization. She/He will work with the Board of Trustees, the CEO, the Directors, staff and special volunteer groups to achieve maximum income from annual giving, government grants, foundation grants, corporate and individual special gifts, endowment bequests and gifts and capital funds.
Nature and Background of Position: This position is concerned primarily with the achievement of the mission, goals and objectives of the association, by insuring that there is sound planning for, and the securing of financial resources for the long and short- term future, and by insuring that the achievements of the association are effectively communicated to the members and public.
The incumbent must have proven ability to relate to top community leaders and to recruit and stimulate their participation, and to actually participate in securing financial support. She/He must know how to plan, recruit and train volunteers to raise funds; have a working knowledge of giving and charitable vehicles; must be able to create interpretive materials to enable potential donors to understand the YMCA and how they contribute to the achievement of its mission.
She/He must have a working knowledge of the media and its use in gaining exposure for YMCA events and programs; be able to design and operate a communication network to all YMCA leaders and potential leaders; and have good writing skills and public speaking abilities. Additionally, raising foundation and government grant proposal expertise are essential. She/He must be able to represent the YMCA in large and small groups with an understanding of group dynamics. She/He must have supervision skills for getting work done through others when there is no direct line authority.
This position is heavily weighted on the human relations side. It is necessary that she/he have a clear understanding of the relationship of the general public to the association, of staff to volunteer, and of intra-staff actions. She/He must be able to delegate appropriate responsibilities involved in day to day operations and must guide or direct all actions within a continuing consciousness of the operating objectives of the association as defined in the association plan.
An undergraduate degree, with a minimum of five years of professional experience (YMCA preferred) with a proven background in fundraising, marketing, excellent oral and written communications skills. Master’s degree a plus.

- Directs and coordinates association capital development programs.

BUILDING MANAGER
Reports to: CEO
The YMCA of Norwalk seeks a Full Time Building Manager. This position shall require active participation with Administrative duties, Consultative, property management, supervisory work for the Building & Grounds committee, the development and management of lease agreements and requires that the candidate be licensed in either plumbing and/or electrical.
Performs all building maintenance duties along with collaboration from all department Directors with issues they may have. Work with committee members on various projects, submit for bid proposals, supervise and train Maintenance Associates, payroll and budget responsibilities for department and managing our cleaning service company. Duties shall include working as a landlord for our low income housing that is located onsite.
Prepares budget data for the CEO and CFO and oversees the spending plan and other items have a financial impact for the department. Provides policy analysis and as directed, drafts policy statements. May engage surveyors, engineers, architects, appraisers, and others to assist in property evaluation and price negotiations. Personally handles the most difficult, sensitive, and politically volatile situations. Selects, trains, and evaluates directly reporting staff. Directs the maintenance of a variety of land, rental, space, insurance, and related property records. Prepares a variety of reports. Conducts special studies as needed. Performs related duties as required.
Knowledge of basic principles of architecture, drafting, and mechanical drawing as they relate to the use of building space. Knowledge of engineering principles and practices as they relate to buildings management. Knowledge of the principles and concepts of ergonomics. Ability to read blueprints and construction specifications and to prepare scaled buildings and floor plans. Ability to work independently and effectively within broad policy guidelines. Ability to communicate effectively as required in the role.
Thorough knowledge of statutes and Department policies, procedures, rules, and regulations applicable to landlord property management. Considerable knowledge of state and federal building safety, health, construction, electrical, and plumbing codes. Knowledge of the legal aspects of deeds, leases, easements, liens, and similar land and buildings use issues. Ability to prepare specifications applicable to building renovations, layout, and usage. Ability to negotiate timely and cost effective bids for any construction or building maintenance projects that cannot be performed in-house.
Duties are normally performed at our 4 floor building (with no elevator access) in addition to the on-site leased properties. Private means of transportation should be available for necessary travel to obtain supplies. The role inevitably is subject to numerous requests for more and better space allocations, complaints about existing space, need for renovation, etc., for which no near-term solution may be possible. Duties may require work outside of normal work hours.

MAINTENANCE ASSOCIATE
The YMCA of Norwalk seeks a Part Time Maintenance Associate to perform routine maintenance
duties to ensure cleanliness and safety of the facility. Six months or more of related
experience preferred. Sufficient physical strength and agility to carry out essential
duties. Candidates should have an electrical and plumbing background and be willing to
roll up their sleeves and perform various job duties in and around the facility. This
position will report to our Manager of Facility. While we will attempt to accommodate a
flexible schedule, some evenings and weekends may be required. Scheduling of this position
will be between the candidate and the Manager.
Candidate must have the ability to use equipment and chemicals in prescribed manner,
including ability to read labels, MSDS information sheets, and instructions. Candidate
must stay alert to potential safety and security problems. Candidate is to carry out
instructions independently and follow OSHA regulations.
Duties will include repairs on all floors of four story building (no elevator access),
follow work order process, ability to use computer to handle e-mail issues and attend
regular meetings as dictated by the Manager. Other responsibilities shall include painting,
replacing light fixtures, and furniture moving, assisting all departments with any repair
issues, maintenance of our conference center and landscaping issues, along with any other
duties as assigned.

The YMCA of Norwalk seeks a VP of Operations that will report directly to the CEO. Candidate will
be responsible for successful operation of all departments within the YMCA. Additional duties shall
include program development, volunteer recruitment, Supervision of Dept. heads, community relations,
collaborations, budgeting & financial results. Candidate would also be responsible for performance
evaluations, staff recruitment, training & development. Committee participation shall be required
across all departments.
Bachelor's degree required. Management experience of 5-7 years with YMCA Senior Director preferred
(must be willing to attain within 1 year). A minimum of five years of middle/upper level management
experience is required with demonstrated success in marketing and public relations, and strong budget
development skills. The individual must have strong interpersonal skills as it relates to interaction
with members, staff and volunteers.

The YMCA of Norwalk seeks a Full Time Director of our Health & Wellness Center. The Director of Health and Wellness is responsible for managing, and promotion of activities related to physical fitness. Major managerial responsibilities require initiative, judgment, and involve considerable verbal contact with staff, general public, along with management. Other duties include attracting new clients and retaining existing members; generating revenue; recruiting, managing and training staff; organizing and publicizing events; As well as ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations; and overseeing maintenance of equipment and premises.
The Director shall have a bachelor’s degree with at least five years of supervisory experience and a general level of health and fitness knowledge.
Major Duties:
Typical work activities usually include:
- Direct supervision of the Coordinator of Group Exercise and Wellness Center staff.
- Recruitment, hiring, training, deployment, supervision, evaluation and/or dismissal of all Wellness Center staff.
- Responsible for the Wellness center and programs, group exercise and aerobics, and youth fitness programs.
- Responsible for growth and development of the department into a YMCA personal fitness program that includes active adults, post-cardiac rehabilitation and youth recreational sports.
- Work with the Facility Manager to ensure safety, cleanliness and equipment and facility maintenance.
- Development of the Wellness Center budget and participation with the program committee (and any other committee that is suitable for the position).
- Co-manage the Annual Golf Tournament with the Director of Sports & Recreation.
- Maintain staff and program quality through adherence to National YMCA program guidelines and certifications and with non-YMCA accreditation requirements where applicable.
- Maintain staff accountability for the maintenance, record keeping and staff training relative to the Automated Electronic Defibrillator (AED).
- Ensure the implementation of YMCA character development into all facets of departmental operation and program delivery.
- Develop yearly departmental goals consistent with the Association strategic plan.
- Attend all weekly staff meetings and other trainings as deemed necessary.
- Participate with the annual support campaign.
- Designing and promoting activities to meet customer demand and generate revenue; includes Healthy Kids Day and various events throughout the year along with healthy screenings.
- Advertising and promoting the centre to increase usage, which may include commissioning and considering market research.
- Organizing, training and supervising staff, including drawing up staff Rota.
- Carrying out health and safety checks on equipment and arranging the cleaning of all areas.
- Maintaining high levels of customer care and handling complaints, as necessary: customer care is paramount - the wellness centre staff needs to consider the requirements of clients from all age groups and sectors of society, including people with disabilities.
- Delivering fitness training - some managers elect to carry out small amounts of fitness training in order to maintain active contact with customers.
- Preparing and checking budgets and stock.
- Writing monthly reports and preparing cash projections for senior management.
- Managing and constantly reviewing the wellness centre timetable.
- Completing a wide range of other administrative and managerial tasks.

The outcome of quality performance will be well maintained, safe facilities and equipment, well run programs and highly proficient and well-trained program staff. Membership satisfaction surveys will rate high while program and membership participation continues to grow. The YMCA seeks part time Wellness Center Floor Staff to monitor and maintain the Wellness center in a
manner that is safe, inviting, neat and clean.
Job Requirements:
- CPR certification
- Interest and general knowledge of fitness and healthy living
- Minimum Age 17
Major Duties:
- To be present 5 minutes prior to the shift start
- Staff member must get coverage of shift if time off needed and Director must be informed prior to the shift change.
- Customer centered staff aligned to the customer centered message.
- The staff's duty is to be diligent with filling out the following forms on a schedule.
- Equipment Repair Sheets- Any machines out of order with down dates and proposed fix dates
- Equipment Clean-up Sheets- A flowing schedule of equipment with Date and time of cleaning of equipment.
- Members/Staff suggestions box. Changes will be made by listening to the members.
- Members Count Sheet count on the hour the number of members in center
- Bulletin Boards are to post three things member news///training hits or features///present and up and coming events

The YMCA of Norwalk seeks fitness instructors who have 2+ years experience (from obtaining their
national certification), in addition to step experience, to teach a variety of fitness classes
here at the YMCA. Candidates should have experience in at least one of the following classes listed below:
- Low/High Impact Aerobics
- Yoga

- Body Sculpting
- Spinning

GENERAL FUNCTION:
To teach a variety of group exercise classes designed to enhance the wellbeing of the YMCA members.

GYMNASTICS INSTRUCTOR
The Norwalk YMCA seeks an experienced PT gymnastics instructor to teach gymnastics at all levels. Classes shall
include young toddlers, children, youth and teens. Candidates must have a solid understanding of gymnast progression
and be willing to create gymnastics travel competition team when developed. Candidate should have a college degree and
2-3 years of experience with gymnastics instruction. YMCA experience preferred.

SPINNING INSTRUCTORS
The YMCA of Norwalk seeks Spin Instructors who will report directly to the Coordinator of Spin and/or the
Director of Fitness. Instructors are responsible for enthusiastically leading a class through a cardio workout.
Applicants must have a current certification in CPR and AED. Applicant must be in good health and fitness. Candidate
must have a certificate in Spin/Cycle.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Being professional, polite, courteous and alert at all times, abiding
by all YMCA policies and procedures and following the core values of Honesty, Respect, Caring and Responsibility.
Spinning Instructors who are on a regular working schedule are responsible for obtaining proper sub coverage when
unavailable to teach for any reason.
All shifts are available including early mornings, evening, and weekends. Free facility usage is offered to all
employees who work a minimum of 10 hours per month.
