Youth Development Center

The Y has received some generous directed-funding to develop and implement a Youth Development Center here on our 3rd Floor programming space. Our CEO is committed to developing our youth in Norwalk. Everyone knows that the YMCA helps develop the “mind, body and spirit,” but we are adding something completely different in the Fourth Quarter of 2011: a Youth Development Center with state- of-the-art “smart room” technology that will be used to teach our youth life skills to better prepare them for the future. The fast-paced lives that parents lead today, coupled with teens who are similarly challenged leaves little room to learn about and develop the life skills needed to survive in our culture today after high school. A Curriculum Development Task Force is currently being formed from thought leaders in our community, business and academia-alike, who will offer recommendations on an initial curriculum that will be introduced later in the year.
